| EXIT 4 was formed in October
of 2000 and named after the Route 102 exit near which
two of our members lived and which the other two used
to get to them!
On the left, Margie Langley is
the Tenor Section Leader of the ScotianAires and has been
singing barbershop for 11 years. Margie and her husband
Brian have 3 children, Susan, Brett, and David, and a
new grandson, Louis. She is delighted to be singing Tenor
with these wonderful gals. She is a retired teacher and
vice-principal who spends as much time as she can at her
cottage escape on the Northumberland Strait.
Next to Margie, Jane Fritz has
been singing barbershop for 24 years. She was a member
of the ScotianAires and has held various positions on
their Board of Directors. In 1991, she sang with
Metro Music Machine; they won the International Quartet
Contest and became Harmony Inc.’s International
Harmony Queens. While living in New Glasgow she co-founded
the Keltic Chords Chorus and was chapter President for
two years. Besides singing, Jane’s hobbies include
tole painting, woodworking, sewing and needlework. She
was the owner of “Great Beginnings in Tole” where
she taught tole painting classes and did custom orders
as well as woodworking for 16 years. Previously she worked
as an Administrative Assistant for the Ontario Ministry
of the Environment and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography.
She is currently retired and enjoys summer at her cottage
on the Bay of Fundy and 3 months of the winter in Florida.
Jane and her husband John have two children, Jack and
Jenna.
Next, Sue Kember is our Lead
singer. Sue has been barbershopping for 15 years and is
a Co-Director of the ScotianAires, the Dartmouth based
chapter of Harmony, Inc. She teaches music from her home
in Windsor Junction to budding piano and voice students.
She and her husband Guy have two girls, Michaela, 11,
and Erica, 9, being home schooled.
On the far right, Mary King sings
Baritone and is a Co-Director of the ScotianAires. She
has 27 years of barbershop-style singing experience. She
is an earlier-than-usual retired employee of the Province
of Nova Scotia whose previous life experiences included
being Administrator of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
and the Public Archives of Nova Scotia, and trekking for
fun in the wilderness of the Himalaya in India and Nepal.
MEK (as she is known) has just built a house in the wilds
of Lower Burlington with her partner, David. She commutes
to the city to satisfy her barbershop habit.
All of EXIT
4 spend much of their time taking care of their
children and husbands, making barbershop a welcome form
of relaxation. The rhythm of swing, sounds of jazz, harmonies
of barbershop and the discipline of singing make barbershop
an interesting lifetime hobby. Although they are serious
about their music, they try to remember that it is not
just the chord that matters but the “accord.”
EXIT 4 has competed
yearly in Area competitions and three times in International
level contests. They would love to have the opportunity
to share their music with you for your special occasion.
